How is Merck’s Life Science business contributing
to the qualification of the cannabis market in Brazil?
As the leader in the life sciences market, with more than 350 thousand products and services for research, development, quality control and pharmaceutical production, Merck is a scientific source to collaborate in the qualification of the market for quality control of medicines based on cannabis in Brazil, offering expertise and solutions in the quality control of cannabis flowers and extracts and in the biological tracking / genetic improvement of the cannabis plant, promoting efficacy and safety for these products – in line, of course, with all regulations relevant to the locations where it operates.
The partnership with The Green Hub makes Merck consolidate itself as a technical-scientific reference for companies in Brazil in the stages of research and development, quality control and analysis for cannabis use – as is the case of pharmaceutical companies that offer cannabis therapy options. In addition, Merck also acts in the education / dissemination of technical content to train the entities responsible for such analyzes.
IMPORTANT: we reinforce that this partnership is not related to Merck’s Health / Pharmaceuticals division, and we will not act directly in the development / production of a new therapeutic option in this sense.

What are the steps of the Startups Call?
The registration is made through the site www.thegreenhub.com.br
It is necessary to:
a) fil out the form;
b) send a PDF presentation about your startup;
c) upload a video with up to 2 minutes duration presenting your solution.
How long are registrations open?
Registration closes on July 2, 2021 at 11:59 PM ET.
What happens after registration?
The Green Hub evaluates with strategic partners the materials of each startup registered and contacts individually the selected ones to continue the process.
If I am not selected, will I be communicated?
Yes. We will give feedback on the possible main reasons why we won’t move forward to the next evaluation step.
When will I be notified?
The feedback will take place at the end of each evaluation step.
What are the evaluation steps?
a) evaluation of the registration material (checking the data and files sent);
b) evaluation of the team of entrepreneurs (availability and mastery of the theme of business);
c) evaluation of the strategic business plan (innovation, technology, legal feasibility operation, economic viability);
d) compliance with the rules of conduct and market ethics (material will be presented in this phase for the implementation);
What level of maturity does my startup need for each step of the process?
This Startup Call is open to all stages of maturity, from ideation to scale up. The program is tailored to the needs the business needs to develop.

The Green Hub has established partnerships with Uruguay and Canada.
What to expect when selected by The Green Hub?
The Green Hub has two models to work together with the selected startup:
- Acceleration;
- Incubation;
What is acceleration?
In the acceleration model, The Green Hub will invest in the development of the investment thesis, business plan and capitalization strategy. The counterpart is the signing of a purchase option contract valid for 24 months of a share of participation in the startup business defined between The Green Hub and the startup. In addition, the startup has physical support for work in São Paulo or Montevideo.
What is incubation?
In the incubation model, The Green Hub acts as a consultant for specific projects of the startup, in addition to providing physical work structure, whether in São Paulo or Montevideo.
